About This Spot

Stepping into Chowder Bowl in Depoe Bay is like slipping into a familiar coastal hideaway where the hum of conversation mingles softly with the salty breeze drifting through. Though modest from the roadside, the interior unfolds into a cozy setting where warm wooden accents and the gentle clink of dishes invite you to slow down and settle in. The pace here is unhurried, marked by genuine smiles and attentive care, even when a lone server juggles a room filled with eager guests seeking a taste of the sea.

This is a place where the ocean’s bounty is celebrated with comforting simplicity. The air often carries the scent of butter and garlic from the kitchen, hinting at steamer clams bathed in rich, aromatic sauces or a steaming bread bowl filled with the restaurant’s renowned clam chowder. There’s a humble satisfaction in every bite of the golden, lightly battered fish and chips or the rich, layered flavors of crab melt and sautéed prawns. Each dish feels like a small chapter of the coast's story, crafted to nourish and please without pretense.

Beyond the food, Chowder Bowl reveals its charm through moments of human connection — the friendly nod from a busy bartender, the warmth of a server’s attentiveness in a bustling dining room, and the simple joy of sharing plates after a coastal stroll. The atmosphere can feel a touch worn around the edges, a gentle reminder that this spot isn’t about polished perfection but about heartfelt, accessible dining with the ocean just steps away.

Whether you’re drawn in by the familiar comfort of clam chowder or the hearty satisfaction of seafood platters, Chowder Bowl offers a quiet kind of joy — a place to pause, savor, and feel connected to the rhythms of this spirited seaside town.

Best chowder I've had in a long time. Their fish and chips were fresh and delicious. There was only one server at the time (Elizabeth) - (We came in near closing) and she was friendly, fast, and really attentive. We had a great time while we were there. Excellent atmosphere and it's right along the coast so you can take a walk to digest when you are done.

Very tasty food! Really nice wait staff, reasonable price for both my chowder and chili, fast/friendly service! Thank you!

When we walked in we were greeted by the sweet lady behind the bar. It was pretty busy since other restaurants were already closed. She did tell us they were out of chowder but we did not mind. We sat ourselves and did have a wait before our order was taken, but there was only one waitress managing 6 other tables. We had the chicken sandwich, chicken strips, fish and chips and all our food was great. No matter how busy it got our waitress kept her cool and just went with it and still provided great service.

This place looks very small from the outside, and surprisingly big inside. Kind of dark inside and could use new updates on their upholstery. We ordered their supposedly famous chowder, but I'm a little disappointed because there's hardly any clam in it. However, their fish (cod) and chips are great! The fish is lightly battered and seasoned very well. I would go back again just for their fish and chips!

The food was good! I recommend the chowder. Jason was our server and he did so amazing! He was the only one in the front of the house but was accommodating to our needs and upfront about what was happening. I highly recommend this place
